Systems Biology Research in Braunschweig
Systems biology aims at understanding complex biological systems in an interdisciplinary approach. Institutes from the Technische Universität Braunschweig, the Fachhochschule Braunschweig/Wolfenbüttel and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research co-operate in a variety of projects to describe entire biological systems.
The projects focus on three main aspects of systems biology: First, the acquisition of complex biological data in a systematic manner, covering the whole range of 'omics' technologies. Second, the storage, distribution and analysis of these data by suitable databases and tools. Third, based on these data, the development of mathematical models describing the particular biological systems. An additional attribute is the Systems Biotechnology activity of the SFB 578 Collaborative Research Center, which expands the system's view to the environment of cells.
